Bellissimo gesto da parte del Preston North End in seguito al fattaccio di Hillsborough dove, come ben sappiamo, Eoin Doyle e Jermaine Beckford sono stati espulsi nel finale di partita per aver litigato tra di loro, un episodio davvero brutto e vergognoso per il quale i due giocatori si sono prontamente scusati e per il quale dovranno pagare le multe che verranno loro inflitte dal Club, ma anche dalla FA.
Il PNE ha dichiarato che non farà alcun ricorso contro le due espulsioni e che i soldi ricavati dalle multe pagate dai due giocatori verranno utilizzati per rimborsare il costo del biglietto di quella partita ai tifosi Whites presenti ad Hillsborough e che lo avevano acquistato con prenotazione.
Un gesto davvero di grande stile che nobilita ancora di più, se necessario, il nome del Preston North End, in qualche modo i tifosi che hanno dovuto assistere a quella brutta scena verranno almeno ripagati.
Come detto Doyle e Beckford hanno voluto rilasciare il seguente comunicato con il quale si sono scusati con il Club, i compagni di squadra ed i tifosi:
“We apologise wholeheartedly for our actions at Hillsborough.
“Our behaviour was not acceptable in any walk of life, let alone on a football pitch.
“We let down the management, our team-mates and most importantly the supporters, who had spent a lot of money to support the team.
“We accept the punishment given to us by the club and The FA and fully support the club’s decision to refund the ticket costs to the supporters.
“We have apologised to the manager, the staff and our team-mates and hope that the supporters accept our total remorse for the incident.
“It is our intention to now put this behind us and to give our all for the benefit of Preston North End going forward.”
