Preston North End can confirm that defender Scott Laird has broken his leg following the late challenge by winger Jamal Campbell-Ryce.
The news came through to manager Graham Westley after his post-match press conference and Laird will be assessed on Wednesday morning.
Westley said: “I thought the challenge was disgusting, the kid [Campbell-Ryce] came and spoke to me at the dressing room door after the game offering me an apology. I didn’t know what to say to him, what do you say to someone who says sorry I didn’t mean it.
“It is not my apology to accept, there is a boy currently lying in hospital, it is their matter to deal with.
“It was horrible; their manager said it was a winger’s challenge. It was obscene, there was no other intent except to be completely reckless and put someone else in serious danger.”
