Preston North End have terminated the contract of Callum Davidson with immediate affect.
Davidson's contract was due to run out in June this year, his stay at Deepdale has been ended now.
Davidson, a former Scotland international, has been a great servant to Preston North End since joining from Leicester City on a free transfer in July 2004.
Craig Brown brought a player to Deepdale with experience of reaching the Premier League, and the left back was influential in helping the Foxes reach the highest tier in English football.
The versatile player made a big impact at Deepdale and was a consistent performer for the Lilywhites. His presence at left back, and even in central midfield has been valuable for Preston, but he was also able to make a valuable contribution as a goalscorer.
Following close friend Graham Alexander's departure to Burnley in August 2007, Davidson took over spot kick duties and was hugely successful, boasting a sensational conversion rate.
The 2007/08 season saw Davidson amass 43 appearances for the Lilywhites, bagging four goals in his first season on penalty duties.
The following season, despite a campaign affected by injury, Davidson picked up the accolade of The Official Supporters Club Player of the Year.
Davidson's strong performances earned him this merit in a season in which he was again enjoying his new responsibility as penalty taker, scoring a further four times.
In his overall time with Preston, Davidson has chipped in with 22 goals from left back, and the Scotsman was to receive another honour in July 2009, after taking over the Captaincy from Paul McKenna who departed for Nottingham Forest.
